Our Collection

Skorpion Zinc Mine (SZM) lies in the southwest corner of Namibia. The zinc oxide ore was first discovered in 1976. The Skorpion Zinc mine, part of the Pan-African Gariep Belt is to be found in south- western Namibia – Namib Desert, roughly 25km North West of the small town of Rosh Pinah. Even though it is proclaimed as Diamond Area No 1, the Sperrgebiet is included under this category as it has remained unharmed by man for over 80 years, with most mining activities being restricted to the coastline and along the Orange River. At the Skorpion Zinc Mine, tarnished zinc ore is mined from an open pit and refined into special high grade zinc ingots on site. The Skorpion Zinc Mine is the 8th largest Zinc mine in the world, producing Special High Grade (SHG) Zinc. The Skorpion Mine is an oxide zinc deposit; the ore minerals are tarbutitte, hemimorphite, smithsonite, sauconite and hydrozincite.
